Explore Aberdares

Aberdare National Park is a magnificent wilderness region located in Kenya´s central highlands. It covers an area of more than 767 square kilometers and includes the Aberdare Mountain Range as well as a variety of environments, including misty rain-forests, bamboo forests and high moorlands.

ACCESSIBILITY

The park is 160 kilometers away from Nairobi city, making it more convenient for both day trips and longer stays. The Ark Gate and the Mutubio Gate are the two primary entrances to Aberdare National Park. The park is accessible by car from Nyeri or Naivasha where the entry to the park is reached via well-kept roads. For individuals who would rather fly, there are airstrips close by.

KEY ATTRACTIONS

Among the park´s many attractions are the picturesque Karuru and Chania waterfalls. Seeing the park´s wildlife, which includes elephants, buffalo, leopards and the uncommon bongo antelope, is one of the park´s main attractions. More than 250 bird species are available for bird-watching, with the endangered Aberdare cisticola among them. The park is made even more appealing by the trout fishing available in the rivers and the stunning vistas and hiking opportunities found on the moorland.

ACCOMMODATION

There are several lodging alternatives available in Aberdare National Park, ranging from relatively affordable campsites and self-catering bandas to opulent lodges like the Ark and Treetops that offer exceptional wildlife viewing experiences. These amenities guarantee a relaxing stay while allowing guests to fully appreciate the park´s scenic surroundings.

CLIMATE

The weather in the park is gloomy and chilly with temperatures between 7 and 20 (degrees Celsius). There is a lot of rain, particularly in the months of March to June and October to November. Visitors are urged to dress warmly and be ready for abrupt weather changes due to the area´s wet, cool climate.
