Lake Manyara

LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Lake Manyara National Park, which is located in northern Tanzania, is a small but very diverse park that offers a taste of a Tanzanian safari. The park is around 330 square kilometers in size, with the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara taking up two thirds of that area. The park is an excellent stopping point for visitors on safari circuits because of its handy proximity to other well-known Tanzanian attractions including the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. It is located at the base of the escarpment that forms the Great Rift Valley.

WILDLIFE AND TREE-CLIMBING LIONS

Notable are the elephant herds at Lake Manyara and the tree-climbing lions. Visitors will witness a unique and thrilling experience when they see these lions lounging in acacia trees, as this behavior is exclusive to them. The park also sustains healthy populations of giraffes, hippos, buffalo, zebras, and wildebeests; these animals can often be seen grazing along the shoreline. Blue monkeys, baboons, and occasionally even leopards can be seen in the park’s nutrient-rich groundwater forests.

BIRD-WATCHING PARADISE

The numerous birds that gather near the shore of the lake include cormorants, pink flamingos, storks, and pelicans. Because of the variety of open water, marshland, and forest that serve as habitats for a wide variety of species, it’s a great spot for both novice and experienced birders. During the wet season, flamingo birds flock to the lake’s shores, turning them pink in an incredible sight.

DIVERSE LANDSCAPES AND ACTIVITIES

The park has a wide variety of scenery, from the open savannas and the large lake to the tall escarpment and dense woods of the Rift Valley. Game drives offer visitors the chance to discover these diverse habitats and offer great chances to spot wildlife against the escarpment’s backdrop. There are additional options for canoeing and walking safaris.
