I made the decision to visit Mombasa as my next exploration location not long ago. It is up there with Zanzibar in Tanzania as one of Kenya’s most picturesque coastal cities, according to the research I conducted. I knew that I would be insane to visit Zanzibar and overlook Mombasa, a secret treasure with unmatched ancient sites. I thus began searching online for Mombasa trip operators. I sent letters outlining my wishes to several people, and Josephine from Lilac Roller Safaris soon won my heart. In addition to understanding my desires, she also had creative ideas of her own. I loved that she mentioned there was a variety of options; five-star restaurants, opulent hotels, or crowded beaches. Locally, Mombasa was what I wanted to see.

I knew that Josephine’s company was the perfect one even before I arrived at the airport. When I landed at five in the morning, Josephine personally came to get me. When I arrived in the city, Josephine suggested that I take a tour of Fort Jesus and Old Town as my first stop. We proceeded directly to the Old Town, where she had arranged for a local guide to give me a tour. I was thrust into a wonderful tapestry of cultures and history, a little tired. The guide knew a lot about the area, and I was happy to find that the historic structures and winding lanes were teeming with activity. The guide eventually took us to see the vibrant, busy local markets where the aroma of fresh fish and spices permeated the air. It was an experience in and of itself when I got to sample some of the local specialties. With his stories about the ancient city, the knowledgeable guide added interest to the visit.
Subsequently, Josephine recommended visiting Haller area, a nature area that serves as a sanctuary for numerous animals. We took a car there and had a peaceful morning discovering the park’s offerings. We began by going to the reptile park, where I saw enormous crocodiles and tortoises lounging in the sun. The next stop was the butterfly pavilion, where butterflies were fluttering around and the air was bursting with color. Towering palms and delicate orchids were among the amazing array of plants on display in the park’s botanical garden. Along the trails, we also saw a variety of bird species, giraffes, and hippos. The lush, serene surroundings of the park provided the ideal counterpoint to the busy metropolis.
After the park visit, Josephine’s employee picked me up in a private tour vehicle, which made the trip comfortable and convenient. But because I wanted to experience my tour at local level, I requested we use public means of transport to get to Diani. A ticket was bought for a seat in the minibus which drove us to Swahili Beach Club in Diani. The drive was an experience in itself. There wasn’t much space, and the joy of sitting close is prerequisite. The minibus also serves as package transport so packages were being picked along the way. Once at the beach, I met my guide. He was supposed to be with me for the next three days. I checked in to my room, which overlooked the Indian Ocean and then later went to the hotel café to order some food, my tour guide accompanied me.
My favorite part of my stay at the Swahili Beach Hotel was the food. A range of fresh fruits, pastries, and regional fare, including sweet, fried breads called mahamri and mandazi, were served at the breakfast buffet. For dinner, I also relished classic Swahili fare like biryani and curries with coconut flavor. The region’s culinary legacy was evident in the flavors, which were rich and varied.

Every meal took me on a tour through the colorful cuisine of Kenya. I enjoyed the finest fish I’ve ever tasted when I dined at the hotel’s seafood restaurant one evening. The chef used the ideal combination of spices to prepare the fish, which was caught that day. The personnel was always willing to accommodate specific requirements, and the service was attentive without being intrusive.
If you want to explore Kenya and its adjacent economies, I recommend that you contact Josephine from Lilac Roller Safaris. She knows the sites and people that make a trip worthwhile. In addition, she offers an unparalleled combination of historical, cultural, and ecological experiences.
