Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park

Often referred to as the Kabalega National Park, the Murchison Falls National Park has the most potent waterfall in the world, ejecting up to 300 cubic meters of water per second, or 11,000 feet per second, at a pressure so great that it causes the earth to quake. With a total size of 3840 square kilometers, or 1483 square miles, the park was officially gazetted in 1927 and is currently the largest park in Uganda. Due to its abundance of wildlife and variety of safari activities, it is popular for Uganda Safari Tours.

Wildlife & Birds

More than 73 animal species are found in the Murchison Falls National Park, including four of the “Big Five”—buffalos, leopards, lions, and elephants—as well as a healthy population of herbivores that has recently doubled, including Uganda Kobs. The park is also home to three-quarters of the world’s population of Rothschild giraffes. Within its lush woods reside a variety of primates, including the Budongo, one of the approximately 610 chimpanzees, as well as 451 bird species, including 23 unique species to the Albertine Rift.

What to see

Falls of Murchison

The best part of any trip to Murchison Falls National Park is going to the falls to see how a lot of water from the Victoria Nile goes through a 7-meter-wide gorge to drop 43 meters into a pool. This powerful water fall makes a loud noise and sprays a cloud of fog, making for an absolutely stunning view.

The Rhino Sanctuary of Ziwa

This private, non-profit project started in 2005 to restore the white rhino population in Uganda following extensive poaching in the 1990s that completely eradicated the species from the Murchison Falls and Kidepo National Parks, where it used to live. This sanctuary currently houses twenty-two 22 southern white rhinos.

The numerous animals

The park’s diverse vegetation, which includes woodlands, savannah, and riverine forests, is home to a wide variety of animals that can be easily observed . These include Hartebeests, lions, elephants, leopards, Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, cheetahs, hyenas, and many others are among these.

Birds

Over 451 species of birds can be observed in the park, including the rare shoebill stork, Goliath heron, yellow footed fly catcher, African jacana, Abyssinian ground hornbill, pitta, and pied giant and malachite kingfisher.
