The 7Â Days Kilimanjaro Marangu Route is one of the most popular ways to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 metres. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is the original Kilimanjaro trail and remains the only route offering comfortable mountain hut accommodation throughout the trek.
Perfect for fit and adventurous travelers, this trek takes you through diverse ecosystems including lush rainforest, heathland, moorland, alpine desert, and the glacier-covered summit zone. Every day presents a new landscape, culminating in the unforgettable achievement of standing on the Roof of Africa.
Starting from Nairobi/Arusha, Lilac Roller Safaris handles all logistics including transportation to Tanzania, park permits, professional mountain guides, accommodation, and porter support, allowing you to focus entirely on your climb.
The Marangu Route is one of the most accessible and comfortable Kilimanjaro climbing options available thus remains a favorite choice.
This Trek is suitable for:
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you are met after passing through customs. Transfer to Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge and have a comprehensive briefing and equipment check with your climbing manager and your guide. Stay at Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge
Kick off your Kilimanjaro trek at the main park gate to start your ascent toward Africa's highest summit. The first leg of your hike winds through a dense montane rainforest teeming with unique wildlife, local birds, and the rare Impatiens kilimanjari blossom. Stay alert for colobus monkeys and the vibrant feathers of Hartlaub’s Turaco along the trail. Once you reach Mandara Hut, the afternoon is yours to rest up or take a short walk out to Maundi Crater. Stay at Kilimanjaro Mountain Huts
Leave the forest behind today as you climb higher into the alpine heath and moorland zones. Keep an eye out for the island's most bizarre flora, including the prehistoric-looking giant lobelias and towering senecios (giant groundsels). As the skies clear, you will catch your first breathtaking views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks—giving you a direct look at the grand summit awaiting you later this week. Stay at Kilimanjaro Mountain Huts.
Enjoy a rest and acclimatization day at Horombo Hut with no pack-up required this morning. Today features a scenic acclimatization walk to the famous Zebra Rocks and the lower slopes of Mawenzi Peak, offering stunning panoramic views of Kibo looming across the high-altitude saddle. Spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing around camp, resting your legs, and prepping for the upcoming climb. Stay at Kilimanjaro Mountain Hut.
Trek into the high-altitude desert today, crossing the rocky, boulder-filled saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi. Watch the skies for soaring buzzards or rare lammergeiers gliding on the mountain winds. Once you arrive at camp, the afternoon is completely focused on your upcoming summit push: double-check your kit, eat well, and rest as much as possible before the midnight climb. Stay at Kilimanjaro Mountain Huts.
Summit Night – The Ultimate Challenge: Wake up at 11:30 PM for a midnight departure. This is where pure mental toughness takes over, rewarded by an unforgettable sunrise over Mawenzi Peak. You should hit Gilman’s Point (5,685m) right around dawn. Stop for a quick rest, then push along the snow-draped crater rim past Stella Point to reach Uhuru Peak! Celebrate your achievement at the summit, take in the glacial views, and then head back down to Kibo Hut to eat and pack. You will continue your descent to Horombo Hut for the night, where you can finally relax in the oxygen-rich lower altitude. Stay at Kilimanjaro Mountain Huts.
The Final Descent: After breakfast, tip and thank your mountain crew before heading down through the forest. Stop for lunch at Mandara Hut, then push on to Marangu Gate to complete your journey. Your guide will collect your summit certificates while our driver prepares to transfer you to your hotel. Wrap up your unforgettable adventure and dropped off at your city hotel/Â Kilimanjaro Airport.

Positioned in the alpine desert zone, Kibo Hut serves as the base camp for the summit attempt.
