Nairobi- Maasai Mara National park
After a pick up from your Nairobi accommodation/ airport, you’ll journey through the Great African Rift Valley to make your way to the Maasai Mara. During the trip you will have ample opportunity to take in this ancient landscape with photography stops at scenic locations a possibility.
You will be arriving in Maasai Mara at lunch time and check in your lodge. Your afternoon is spent in this great wilderness, with a game drive through the Maasai Mara affording you sightings of the animals this part of the world is famous for. Along with the big five of African safari, the Masai Mara presents sightings of Masai giraffe, zebra, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, impalas and so many more. Your expert guide will be able to help you track and identify these magnificent beasts. Dinner and overnight in Ashnil lodge.
Maasai Mara National park Full Day
An early start, with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate to rouse and get you ready is followed by another game drive. The African safari you have dreamed of is again presented. Sweeping scenery, rolling hills, acacia trees, all punctuated by the animals of the Masai Mara as they start a fresh day on the plains.
Hot air balloon is a perfect way to fully understand the extent of the landscape as well as a great way to see vast swathes of animals as they move through their habitat. Taking a balloon safari is an optional extra at a cost of $425 per person, for many it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the Masai Mara like few have.
You will spend a whole day in the park searching for the big five animals and other game and also the birdlife. Dinner and overnight in Ashnil lodge
Maasai Mara- Lake Nakuru National park
After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Nakuru. A picnic lunch will be served, and you will arrive at Lake Nakuru early in the evening in time for dinner, with a short game drive en route. Lake Nakuru is a renowned paradise for bird watchers. It has a large population of birds, the most famous being the thousands of flamingos, which form a beautiful deep pink coloration around the edges of the lake shore. Apart from these flamingos, over 400 species of birds are visiting the lake. Animals can also be sighted in the park, including Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon, and other plains game species. Later, after the game drive, dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge.
Lake Nakuru National Park-Aberdares
You will have early breakfast, then you will be picked up by your driver for an enroute game drive on your way to Aberdare National park arriving in time for lunch at Aberdares Country Club. After lunch you are transferred to the park by the lodge vehicle.
The park provides a habitat for elephants, black rhinos, leopards sported hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos and many more. Rare sightings include those of the Giant Forest Hogs, bongos and many types of big cats. You can indulge in picnics, trout fishing in the river and camping in the moorlands. You can also enjoy bird viewing with over 250 species of birds in the park. Dinner and overnight at the Ark Lodge.
Aberdares National Park- Solio Ranch
After a night in the Ark lodge, you will have your breakfast, the drive to Solio Ranch situated in the central Kenyan highlands. Solio Ranch is a conservancy at the foot of Aberdare Mountains for unlimited game drive in search of wildlife including the Rhinos. This private conservancy has the highest concentration of Rhinos in Kenya. It also boasts of a big variety of other wildlife. Solio is a conservancy rarely visited by most tourists hence making it the best choice for the regular traveler.Leave the conservancy and head to Aberdare Prestige and royal cottages for dinner and overnight.
Aberdares Cottages-Olpejeta Sanctuary
After breakfast, drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy to arrive at the Sweetwaters Tented Camp in time for lunch. This is the only place in Kenya where Chimpanzees are found. Sweetwaters is home to orphaned Chimpanzees, introduced to Kenya by the British researcher Jane Goodall to protect the otherwise endangered species. The Reserve has a high concentration of animals in relation to its area. Elephant, buffalo and the rare Rhino can be found there. After lunch, proceed on afternoon game drive in the conservancy including a visit to Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at Sweetwaters camp.
Olpejeta Sanctuary Full Day
This final, full day of your safari holiday offers extensive game drives and a chance to learn of the some of the conservation efforts undertaken at the park. After breakfast you will head out into the park to marvel at the animals and will also have the chance to visit the only chimpanzee population in Kenya.
The Jane Goodall Institute was set up by the naturalist that gave it its name and provides sanctuary and rehabilitation to chimpanzees that have been taken advantage of and abused and cannot live a fully independent life. Here they are looked after and you can learn about the work completed with them.
Your afternoon will also be spent out on the plains, watching the animals go about their lives in this most wonderful of settings. You may be lucky enough to spot some of the rhinos in the park, here due to conservation efforts to relocate populations away from hunters who want their horns. After a day of learning about and appreciating the landscape you will return to your camp for dinner and overnight at Sweetwaters camp
Olpejeta Sanctuary -Nairobi
To round off your journey through the habitats and landscapes of Kenya, take one final game drive after breakfast. You will have one final opportunity to spot the animals you’d longed to see and maybe find ones that you’ve only discovered on this safari.
Your safari will end with a return drive to Nairobi, tracking south as you head down from the highlands and back to the bustle of city life. As one final goodbye to the grasslands of Kenya, you will be stopped for a traditional lunch before arriving back to reality.
Upon arrival in Nairobi you can request to be dropped off at your hotel or residence, or at the airport depending on your onward travel plans.
