Overview

Tanzania Safari — 7 Days, Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Lake Manyara

The Serengeti does not announce itself. The transition from scrubland to open plain happens gradually, and then suddenly you understand why the word ‘endless’ applies. The horizon is unbroken in every direction. In the middle distance, a column of wildebeest moves left to right without end. Your guide says: ‘This is 1.5 million animals.’ You do not entirely believe him until you have been watching for twenty minutes and the column has not changed.”

Tanzania’s northern safari circuit — the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Manyara — is one of the world’s great wildlife journeys. These three parks are geographically close but ecologically distinct: the Serengeti’s infinite savannah, the Ngorongoro Crater’s self-contained perfection, and Lake Manyara’s forested lakeshore where lions have learned to rest in trees.

Serengeti to Crater is a seven-day private circuit that gives you each park in proper depth — not a single night and a rushed game drive, but the full experience of each landscape. Operated from Nairobi, with our vetted Tanzania ground partners managing the in-country logistics.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS TOUR

The Serengeti is the one place on Earth that is truly larger than any expectation you arrive with. Most guests spend the first hour in the vehicle in silence, recalibrating their sense of scale. Then the lions appear, and everything else falls away.

Tanzania’s northern circuit is accessed via Arusha, which is served by direct flights from Nairobi (1 hour) or overland via the Namanga border crossing (6 hours). Our Tanzania safaris are coordinated from our Nairobi office with vetted in-country Tanzania partners — we manage the full itinerary and remain your single point of contact throughout. Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Floor access is time-limited to day visits only; crater rim accommodation is available for guests wishing to stay overnight at the rim.

Day 1

Kilimanjaro Airport–Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and after clearing customs, you will be met by your driver guide who will transfer you to Arusha.

Day 2

Arusha-Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park with picnic lunch Upon arrival in the park, you continue with game drive.
Tarangire National Park extends over some 2,600 sq km (1,615 square miles) in the Rift Valley. Arid and studded with giant termite mounds, it is here that you can witness massive herds of elephant with some reaching as many as 500. During the dry season the park becomes a haven for many migratory species and this is the best time to see animals as they cluster around various water sources. When the rains arrive, the animals become more widely distributed once more and the region’s swamps are alive with bird life. The many herds of elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, impala, gazelle and eland feast on the green shoots, eventually depleting them and being forced to return to the river systems once more.Dinner and overnight at your Camp/Lodge

Day 3

Lake Manyara National park–Ngorongoro
After breakfast, drive out of Tarangire for a leisurely drive to Lake Manyara National Park for game drive.
Lake Manyara National Park is small compared to Tanzanian’s other parks. At only 330 km2 it fits neatly into the Great Rift Valley, it is the real Cinderella of Tanzanian parks. This park is often overlooked and underrated but this gem was described by Ernest Hemingway as ‘the loveliest place I have ever seen’. The shallow alkaline lake is often covered by resident flamingos and whatever the park lacks in size it makes up for in diversity. Apart from the lake and the many lions that roam the park, there is an expanse of tropical jungle filled with troops of baboons and other occupants of the rainforest. Large herds of buffalos and zebras wander on the plains and in the distance are the ever present jagged peaks of volcanoes.Local lunch at Mto wa mbu or Karatu..Dinner and overnight at your Camp/Lodge

Day 4

Ngorongoro-Serengeti National Park
After an early morning Breakfast, drive from your lodge to Ngorongoro crater with picnic lunch for game viewing.
Ngorongoro Crater is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest un flooded and unbroken caldera in the world, measuring about 20kms across, 600 meters deep and 300 sq. kms in area. The high walls of the crater itself, serve as a natural enclosure for an abundance of wildlife. There is a large resident population of varied ground game with the very real chance of you being able to see the “big five’. Among the notable birds are Lammergeyer, Vereaux’s Eagle and Egyptian Vulture, which make their home in the highest of the crater wall, the beautiful Rosy-breasted Longclaw, which appears on the plains after rains and flocks of lesser and Greater Flamingos which are spasmodic visitors to the crater lakes.
Later you will drive to Serengeti National Park. We can arrange for a stop at Olduvai well advanced on time where you will get a chance to visit the archaeological site “Olduvai Gorge”
The Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park. Its name means ‘endless plain’ in the Maasai language. It is from here that massive concentrations of wildebeest, zebras and other animals. And therefore, you will find a very big number of predators around. The abundant of salty pastures new, providing one of the greatest natural spectacles to be found anywhere in the world. You can watch golden-manned lions stalking the migrating herds, spot leopards at rest in trees at dusk and take a hot-air balloon tour at dawn as the sun’s golden rays illuminate the land.
